Our vein screening includes a review of the patient's medical history, a visual inspection of the patient's lower extremities and a venous Doppler study, which is a brief ultrasound scan used to determine if a patient has venous disease - a common condition that affects the veins in a patient's legs. The screening is painless, safe and takes about 20 minutes. It cost $25 and does not require a physician referral.
If a patient has venous disease that is left untreated for too long, it could result in life-limiting conditions or ulcers. If the screening indicates venous insufficiency (also called venous reflux), Oklahoma Heart Hospital (OHH) offers a simple, noninvasive procedure to treat the condition. Venous insufficiency is a condition that occurs when a person's veins do not adequately circulate blood to the heart, causing a build-up of blood within the veins.
