Dr. Benjamin Harkess is originally from Edmond, Oklahoma. He obtained a bachelor’s degree in biochemistry from the University of Oklahoma before studying in Chicago where he served as class secretary and earned his Doctorate of Podiatric Medicine. During his residency in New York City, he completed additional training in dermatopathology and Ilizarov external fixation courses. Always an Oklahoman at heart, upon completion of his training Dr. Harkess chose to move home and establish himself in private practice. He joined the Oklahoma Heart Hospital in 2018.
Dr. Harkess is board certified by the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery. He specializes in limb salvage, diabetic foot care, bunion and hammer toe deformities, plantar fasciitis, and arthritic foot pain. Despite extensive surgical training, Dr. Harkess believes strongly in conservative treatment measures and prides himself on successfully treating a large portion of his patients with conservative measures. Special areas of interest include the biomechanics involved in cycling and modifications that can be made to improve cyclist comfort and avoid injury.
Dr. Harkess was recognized by 405 Magazine as a top doc in 2022 and 2023. He is the Podiatry Section Chief for Mercy Hospital (Oklahoma City), 2024-present.
