Spotlight on the Lung Center at OHH
At Oklahoma Heart Hospital, we treat more than just hearts. The Lung Center at OHH is an important part of the care we provide to patients from Oklahoma and across the country.
The heart and the lungs are a team. They work together to supply the body with the oxygen-rich blood that every organ needs to function. The heart circulates the blood, but it needs the lungs to infuse it with a fresh supply of oxygen. The lungs oxygenate blood but need the heart to carry it throughout the body. Not only are the heart and lungs related in the work they do, but diseases of the heart and lungs often present with many of the same symptoms. For instance, breathing troubles and chest pain can be caused by either or both. The OHH Lung Center focuses on treating this vital partner of the heart.
The Lung Center’s team includes pulmonologists, radiologists, thoracic surgeons, respiratory therapists, and other clinicians. These specialists focus on the diagnosis and treatment of a wide range of lung conditions, including:
- Asthma and asthmatic bronchitis
- Bronchiolar disorders
- Chronic obstructive lung disease (chronic bronchitis and emphysema)
- Infectious lung disease
- Interstitial lung diseases, including pulmonary fibrosis
- Shortness of breath
- Other pulmonary disorders
In our labs, we offer a wide range of testing, including cardiopulmonary exercise tests (VO2 Max), pulmonary function tests, and diagnostic bronchoscopy. Our pulmonary function lab is certified by the American Thoracic Society and staffed with respiratory therapists who are specially trained in pulmonary testing. Our lung cancer screening program provides screening and a multidisciplinary team to oversee your care.
At OHH, we offer the highest quality care for both your heart and your lungs. If you have any concerns about your lung health or any breathing problems, contact us for an appointment today.
